Pensive Mood

This is my neice Kayla, sleeping on her daddy, on one of her rare visits home from the hospital. We just heard today.

The date has been set for her surgery.
Wednesday, Kayla will have her right leg removed.
Even though they havent been able to shrink her blood clots, they dont want to wait any longer. So that adds a little more risk to her surgery. This week she is having extra Chemo treatments.
I wish I was there with her. I feel so helpless. I wrote this after I got the call. Its kinda gloomy, but helps me get it out.

~A Fathers Prayer ~

Sixteen birthdays she has had,
Twas ‘fore that last, when things went bad.
The cells that are her life and structure,
Turned for worse,
Turned against her.

When the enemy you fight against,
Is your own body, can you win?
Can a young girl battle, against herself?
Fight this curse?
Come back to health?

Since the first day doctors spoke the news
Her life would change, and so her views.
From deep within, resolve did rise,
Strength from prayer,
Offered to the skies.

Her friends and family, shocked, did muster
Asked God why this child should suffer.
No answer did the Lord provide.
But for those in anguish,
His arms open wide.

She fights this battle with resolve,
The chemo does those cells dissolve.
Once the enemy is removed.
This girl, her life
Will begin, renewed.

When she recovers, she wants to swim,
To life , she will return again.
With all the medical advances,
Very encouraging
Are her chances.

Younger siblings, their roles reversed,
Have learned to hope against the worst.
Their little lives turned upside down
So grandma took them,
Out of town.

Their father in his empty house,
Prays for faith, his soul be doused.
Guide me through this ,
Help me be,
The daddy for her, you’ve been for me.

Thanks for the prayers I know you will send up. Love Susan

I don't even know what to say. What a huge hurdle at any age. I am praying for her right now.

Getting it out is in your best interest so you can be strong and be there for them as you have always been. I will continue to keep each one of them in my prayers. Even more so now that I know there is more danger involved in the procedure.

Please make certain you keep us updated as you have been doing.

I came here from Brian's site as well. What a beautiful niece you have.

My heart goes out to you and yours as well. I know what it's like to watch someone fight so hard against a disease. The battlefield is very tough to negotiate, and I'm glad you're in that girl's corner. Love is a healer in many ways, and you seem like the kind of person that has a lot of it in her heart.

That must be where she gets her strength, between her own resolve and her loving family and friends.

God's with you, and so are all of us that you've shared this experience with.

I will be praying for your niece Kayla, now and especially on Wednesday.

Cancer does not discriminate, it devours the young and the old alike.

We have good friends, kids who have lost limbs to cancer and have gone on to do very well.

Kayla has the heart of a warrior. We are behind her all the way.

Goodness, I am lost for words. It is terrible when one so young has to go through so much.
Sending love and best wishes for you all.
Take care, Meow
