It saddens me to tell you that the lesions removed from Kayla's lungs are indeed cancerous. SIGH!!!
The good news, is that she won't be requiring Chemo. For now, the Doctors are satisfied to continue monitoring her lungs with monthly scans to watch that the remaining nodes do not grow any larger. Apparently the latest studies show that chemo does not make a significant difference in the progress of patients with lung mets following osteosarcoma.
I am sure Kayla is relieved to know she will be able to continue to let her hair grow. She wont have to worry about the nausea and weakness that chemo brings. At least not at this point in time. The good news continues to be that the cancer shows no sign of recurrence in her leg and Kayla grows more mobile each and every passing day. Her progress with her prosthetic limb is nothing short of amazing!
Thank you all for your concern and prayers.

Hi Susan,
I'm so sorry that Kayla has lung mets. I've prayed for her every day since I first heard about her. I've just put one of the badges I made on my blog, and I will make some up-to-date ones. *Big hugs*
Annie
This is such a good news-bad news post. I'm sorry to hear that the lesions were cancerous. I hope the remaining nodes don't get bigger. Keeping Kayla in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs!
Keeping the prayers continuing for a young pillar of strength, guts and fortitude.
Life is so unfair! I am so sorry to hear this news. Is there anything we can send Kayla to make her feel better? I will continue to pray for her. (I didn't use to know how to put those icons up, but I'll try, since Herman has been so helpful in teaching me.)
Susan, So often life is very unfair and many times it seems to involve such special people.
Kayla has been in my thoughts as well as my prayers. She will continue to be in them as well as her family.
She will meet this new battle just as she has the ones in the past with such courage.
Thank you for keeping us informed with Kayla's conition.
She will have my prayers to add to all the others. I am not familiar with what you are talking about but will also pray for good decisions by her medical team. Again her age and will should help.
Oh my goodness, I will definitely keep Kayla in my prayers.
I am so very sorry the news wasn't what y'all hoped for. I am here praying hard for kayla and your family.
Keep the faith!!
Man that royally sucks, Susan. It makes me so angry that a girl so young would be put through such scary stuff. We are all pulling for Kayla to be rid of this horrible cancer once and for all. I'm so sad that her fight isn't over, but I have such a strong feeling that she will one day be cancer free.
I'll keep her in my thoughts every day. It's so sad for her, her parents and the rest of the family. I copied her logo from your blog and pasted in my blog too as a reminder. Bring her my best whishes Susan.
Kayla continues to be in my thoughts and in my prayers. She comes to mind at different times of the day and I instantly get a smile on my face.
Please tell her from her biggest fan that she is indeed my hero.
Hi Susan,
I've been so busy I haven't read my favorite blogs recently, and I am so sorry to read about Kayla's bad news. She is in our prayers as she struggles toward a cancer-free future!
Love,
Deb
