books and butterflies

This butterfly is a tease.
Everyday, he alites on my hanging basket, right out my kitchen window. He is huge, almost as big as my hand. Evey time I see him, I run for my camera and head out to shoot him. He waits untill I am just about ready to snap him and off he flutters. This shot was taken by telephoto from the otheside of the yard. I dont know if he is camera shy. I am not happy with this photograph my friends. I really want a nice close up of him on my colourful flowers. Does anyone have any idea of how to atract a butterfly?
In matters of non-flutteryness.....
I used to be an avid fiction reader. Even as a kid/teen friends would get annoyed with me because i'd rather stay home and read than go out with them. When our family went on holidays, we always brought a big box of novels from the library, and we would lay on the beach all day reading and around the campfire reading at night.
I havent made time to read much fiction in the last couple of years. Going to college, and being swamped with studies, made reading the last thing I wanted to do. Also I became so hooked on blog reading, that it sort of replaced my interest in novels. Well, a few weeks ago I picked up a novel for the first time in months and really enjoyed it. I reread To Kill a Mockingbird. My daughter was reading it for school and kept talking about it. So I ended up reading it too. That hooked me back on the old lust for printed fiction again.
I just finished this novel by Luanne Rice. Called Crazy in Love. Its the second book I have read by her. She sets her stories on the New England Coast. This was a story about family and the dynamics within three generations of women. Its definately a "chick book". My husband would read this and say..."but nothing happened!" Its more about getting to know the characters and falling in love with them.
So now that I am hooked again, its off to the library for me. While I am out, I may see if I can find a butterfly net!!!!

That sounds like a really good book. I'll have to note that. I love the northeaster coastline (North Carolina dream and all).

I love your descriptive posts so much, Susan. And Kayla is still on the prayer list that is updated every Friday here.

Have a great weekend.

I especially enjoy reading fiction. I find myself reading more & watching TV less as I get older. I do read non fiction but usually it is about computers, softward, photography or some other specific interest I have. Fiction is the best!

Hey... library lady.... couldn't you just see the two of us wondering the aisles, running our fingers across the alphabet.. and killing ourselves laughing. I am just about to embark on a new book this very minute... I have three to pick from... hopefully it will be a better choice than the last few I have read...

You got the photo. My son is huge on photography recently buying digital SLR. He "hates" wildlife photography because of trying to get the thing to stand still. He did get some great shots of a bee on the flowers of our passion flower in the garden over the weekend though.

Love both butterflies and books. I once made a website on how to attract butterflies to your garden.
From my page:
Select a variety of nectar producing plants to provide flowers in bloom throughout the season. It is especially important to have flowers in mid to late summer, when most butterflies are active. Annuals bloom continuously through the season and are always a good choice. They seem to prefer pink, purple, or white flowers and single flowers rather than double blooms. Supplementary nectar may be provided through small bits of fruit, such as apples, bananas, or citrus
