The Beautiful Game

With the world cup starting soon, and Canada dismally absent, I will be rooting for England, the country of my birth. I don't claim to be in the know on anything to do with the teams and players. But I do enjoy watching when it comes down to a big tournament like this.
So our first game is against the USA. Which will be fun to watch, being that they are our geographic neighbours. Out of curiosity, I looked up the USA roster and there are only FOUR(4) American team players listed. The rest of the USA world cup team are mostly English! one player even from Bolton Wanderers, my home town team. So am I really that far off when I say it looks like Team England will be virtually playing against itself? Currently Canada only has one team in the Major League Soccer, that's Toronto. However, as of March 2011, Vancouver Whitecaps will be reborn into the MLS. So is there a chance we can send a Canadian team to the world cup in 2014?
For Canadians, CBC will have full coverage of the World Cup. England faces USA on June 12 at 1130 local time.

Hi Susan, we just watched the game yesterday evening. Since Malta is never part of the world cup we tend to support other countries, my 6 year old son has decided to support England. I must admit that I felt so sorry for Green. Let's just keep our fingers crossed for next time.

p.s. This is the only time we watch football !

Hi Dina,
Hey thats great. Rooting for the same team as us! That was painful, wasn't it? To see that ball slip through his hads like that! At least we didnt lose the game! Apparently alot of the 'keerers' have been complaining aboout the smooth shiny balls being difficult to grasp.
