MY WORLD TUESDAY Look around Kanaka Creek Park

My world Tuesday is upon us again. Here is a bit more of Maple Ridge for your perusal! For other My World entries click this link http://showyourworld.blogspot.com/

LOOKING EAST ALONG THE FRASER AS THE MIST STARTS TO FORM. THESE TOWERS ARE MADE OF LOGS STOOD ON END AND PILE DRIVEN INTO THE SILT. THEY ARE USED TO MOOR THE LOG BOOMS TO. IT'S NOT UNCOMMON TO SEE SEALS THIS FAR UP RIVER.
LOOKING EAST ALONG KANAKA CREEK AND ITS FROSY BANKS.

LOOKING WEST ALONG THE FRASER RIVER AT THE MOUTH OF KANAKA CREEK. AN OLD RUINED DOCK IN THE FORE GROUND FROM THE TURN OF THE CENTURY GIVES A HINT TO THE HISTORY OF THE AREA. FURTHER ALONG THE WATER YOU SEE LOG BOOMS MOORED ALONG THE WATERS EDGE. THEY ARE STORED ALONG THESE WATERS UNTILL THEY ARE TAKEN BY TUG BOAT TO THE MILLS.

THIS WATERWAY IS ALSO USED TO TRANSPORT BARGES FILLED WITH GRAVEL FROM THE PITTS. TOWERING OVERHEAD IS MOUNT BAKER, A GLACIAL COATED VOLCANO WHICH IS ACTUALLY JUST SOUTH OF THE BOARDER IN WASHINGTON STATE USA. THIS HUGE MOUNTAIN IS SEEN FROM ALL OVER THE LOWER MAINLAND. GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF HOW CLOSE TO THE BOARDER WE ARE.
LOOKING DOWN THE STEEP STEPS OF THE KANAKA LOOKOUT. FROM HERE YOU CAN WATCH FOR BIRDS, I SAW TWO HUGE OWLS FLY OVER, BUT WAS TOO SLOW TO PHOTOGRAPH THEM. I HAVE ALSO SEEN BEAVER FROM HERE.

LOOKING UP AT THE TOWERING BLACK POPLARS.
We get alot of these clear sparkling mornings.Frost on everything and ice on the puddles. But once the sun gets up by about 9:30 am, the warmth of its sunshine on the cool earth sets off the mist and fog. I was walking in Kanaka at 8:00 and had a nice clear hour. It was getting misty just as I left. Wouldn't want to be down on the trail if it got too socked in with fog! Then I wouldnt be able to tell if a bear was heading towards me!

Thanks for the lovely tour. We have lots of log booms that head south from my neck of the woods. This is my first time at That's My World. I would like to introduce you to my town, Powell River, BC. -- Margy
