SPRUNG!!!

FINALLY! KAYLA HAS LEFT THE HOSPITAL.

If I can say one thing about Kayla. She has never lost her big smile (well never for long) despite what she has had to endure. I doubt most adults in her place would have been so brave and determined.

She has been in hospital since June, if memory serves me correctly.
On Friday, she went to her foster home. She so needed to terminate her long term residence at the hospital. Although she was receiving the best possible care there, she was witness to far too much sadness. This past couple of weeks, she received news of yet two more young friends who did not make it. Their treatments were not successful. Please hold Kayla and her very young friend's families in your thoughts as they grieve the loss of those very short lives.
Kayla will still be spending a lot of time at the hospital while she gets her chemo treatments, but will be able to go home between treatments. Apparently her last chemo treatment went well and the nurses were able to keep her nausea to a minimum with the drugs they gave her. She went last week for a mould of her leg to get the making of the prosthesis underway. She is doing great with her balance and gets around well on her crutches. Kayla has a grueling task of learning to use her new 'leg' when it arrives. But despite the work , I know she is looking forward to standing on her own two feet before long! She mentioned that this coming week she was going to attempt a surprise visit to school and see all her friends and teachers. She hasn't physically been able to attend school since the start of the new school year... she is looking forward to seeing everybody. So in six months from now, her chemo should be complete, she will have adapted to her new "leg" and will be running circles around her little brothers and sisters!
This photo was taken on the evening that one of her nurses took her to see Phantom of the Opera. Kaylas alltime favorite show. She had seen the movie and had never seen the show. Her school raised funds for two tickets. That night she was so happy. She didnt need make a wish foundation with such good support from the community! (Thanks to Kaylas Mom for these photos).

Her success can be put down to Kayla's own strength and determination, and the great care she received and will continue to receive at the Stollery Hospital. Also the Circle of Prayer that went out for Kayla and her family, was an amazing support. Every good wish and prayer was heard and received by Kayla and our heavenly Father.

I personally want to thank everyone of my friends here on the BLOG for your love and prayers, and the continued interest in my niece's well being. She is not out of the woods yet, but at least she can see the forest starting to thin a little! She knows there is a meadow waiting not far off in the distance.

Now, I have a request. My friend Deni also has a niece in need of our thoughts and prayers. Monica is starting CIRCLE of PRAYER #2 for Deni's niece, who has a brain tumor and an aneurysm.
