Sippin Sudds in the Summertime!

I never used to care much for beer. I found it too gassy. But lately I have started to enjoy a brew. I love red wine, but it hates me, gives me indigestion. I don't touch the hard stuff, as it is poison, except for the occasional shooter (yummmm sambuka!!). Seen too many people in renal failure due to overdoing the spirits. So I've been sipping the suds now and then. I actually started developing a taste for it when we went to England a couple years back. The water was so vile, I drank beer with my meals instead.
Beer has a bit of a history in our family. Keiths father and mine, both worked for Molsons years ago. They were millwrights at the brewery. They got their 2 cases of free beer each payday. My dad would only use one about case a year. Nobody in my family really drank, so the rest he bartered off. You would be amazed at what people will trade for beer!

I have a cousin in England who helps run a micro brewery in York.(Yes Deanna, this is the cousin you met back in the early 80's). I am so proud of him, its funny. He is a grown man, just a couple years younger than myself. But I still think of him as a kid, don't know why that is. Here are some photos (taken from the York Brewery website) of him inspecting the ale.
Next time we visit UK we want to tour the North country and make sure to call in at my cousins brewery. What a fun endevour for a bunch of young men. They are quite a success, they have been in business for 10 years.
The last time I saw him was when I went to England four years back for a mutual cousins funeral. It was a very sad occasion, though it was still nice to see so many relatives. I would like an opportunity to visit under more cheery circumstance. What could me more cheery than meeting over a pint of York Prize winning brew?

I am not much of a beer drinker but when I do I want one of the darker ales. I find a Mexican one, Negro Modello, is pretty good as is Mirror Pond Pale Ale from Bend, Oregon. I might average a bottle a month over a year's time.

I like white zinfandel...Beringer's. It's my favorite.

Hope all is well with you and yours. :)

What a great job - I'd love to try that someday.

When I lived in the U.K., I actually got used to warm beer. It's an acquired taste for an American, but I liked it very much.

I don't care for beer at all myself. Wine is my choice. Now that I work part time at the winery I get to take a free bottle home occaisionaly. The first bottle or so from a batch isn't for retail when we bottle.
Have a great weekend Susan.

I didn't know they had microbreweries in Jolly Old England. If I had a cousin like that, I would try to visit him as often as possible.

Bah it's not warm beer that's an acquired taste, it's refrigerating the stuff to the point where you can no longer taste it that's downright odd.

Beer should be cool, not cold, and with a proper head.

"didn't know they had microbreweries" - If you've got something in the USA, you can pretty much gaurantee we had it in Europe first.

Cheers my dears.
