In Recovery

I got word about an hour ago that kayla is out of surgery. Sorry for the delay in posting but had to notify several family members here via phone.

She went into surgery at noon, Edmonton time. So it was almost a six hour surgery. Her dad is in with her now in recovery, as she starts to come round. All the visiting family were with her early this morning for the dreaded wait. We are waiting to hear more as soon as he comes out to let the family know how she is. But from the sounds of things, she made it through it and there were no nasty complications! Praise the Lord!!!!

I was feeling quite sad this morning at having to be at work. I was thinking about her all morning. Then a strange thing happened.

I was working with another nurse helping one of our patients out of bed. This was at about 1045 my time, Which is 1145 where Kayla is. The exact time unbeknownst to me that they wheeled her into surgery. At that very time a Priest walked into the room! All the time Ive been there, I have never seen a priest on this ward. He had come in to visit a couple of the ladies on my ward. When he was leaving, fifteen minutes later, I stopped him and said "Father, I know I am not one of your church members, but would you please pray with me?" I told him about K.ayla He took me aside and held my hand and prayed with me and blessed me, and as we prayed I burst into tears. So grateful to have had him show up. As it turns out, we were praying at the very time Kaylas surgery was beginning. This was an answer to one of my prayers. I had prayed early this morning for God to allow me an opportunity through the day to be able to focus on Kayla and really be able to feel some peace. How is it that this kindly priest should walk into the room just as her surgery was begining. I look at this as a little miricle in itself. Somehow after that prayer, I felt less distant from Kayla.

Now I have to go over to my Mother in Laws, where Kaylas brothers and sister are, and visit with them and make sure they are feeling ok about all this. Give them a chance to talk about how they feel about going home and seeing their sister who now has only one leg.
Yesterday, little lexi told me she really misses Kayla. They will be home on Friday.

Thank you again everyone for your parayers this day, and for your outreach. Will let you know if there is anything new.

Special thanks to Annie for designing this Pray for Kayla graphic.

Love to you.
May Kayla's guardian angels and God take her under their wings and give her health.

The morning I watched the anesthesiologist push my semi-comatose son down the hallway to the operating room was a moment that will be forever etched in my memory.

He was in the hands of God and his neurosurgeon.

As Kayla was in the hands of God and her surgeon this morning.

I feel for her parents. A parent's most important job on earth is to protect their child, but the truth of it all is that when it comes right down to it we are powerless.

My heartfelt prayers for Kayla's recovery, and for her parents and the rest of her family.

I will be thinking of Kayla in the following weeks as she goes through many different changes with her body but I have faith that she will come through just fine. I was so uplifted by your story of the Priest! God is Good!

Isn't it wonderful how God can uplift us just when we need it the most? Great news on the surgery & our prayers will continue for Kayla's continued recovery. She will face some challenges but I can't think of anyone else who is probably more capable of facing them successfully.

Just read about Kayla through another blog. My prayers go to Kayla for a speedy recovery and to you and her parents and family. The priest? He was there not just for the other people but for you. I really believe that. The priest was there in God's timing and his His will.

Great news! I'm new to your blog, but come by the way of Monica, Teresa and Karen to name a few. When you wrote of the exact timing of the priest's visits, I got chills down my spine. Definitely a gift from Above!

Will be following the news of Kayla's recovery and keeping her in my thoughts and prayers.

I have a feeling Kayla, leg or no leg, will make great strides in this world. This traumatic time will eventually be a memory for her and she can move on to strive for whatever her heart desires. I hope she shoots for the moon, because, though I don't know her, I get a strong feeling that she will make a difference in the lives of many people.
