This Tuesday?

A few days ago, I made plans with an old friend to get together. She was going to come over to my place next Tuesday. Well, this morning came, and she wasn't sure if it was actually this Tuesday. She tried to call me to double check, but I wasn't able to get to the phone in time. I then listened to her message and was chuckling at her. I thought that was so funny, because it is exactly what I am like. So she drove out. and I was running around the house spraying air freshner and picking up laundry! She pulled up in the driveway, laughing as she got out of her car. "I'm here! Am I a week early?" I put the coffee on and as luck would have it I had some cream to go with it. Further more, the kids and I had baked cookies last night, so I had something to go with the java. We had a nice visit

Even though we read eachothers blogs and are pretty much in the loop with eachothers activities for the most part, there are some things we dont blog about. So we talked the morning away. Funny, the older we get, the more and more alike we get. Maybe its mothering and running a family, but we have so much in common. Even though we haven't gotten together for months, we picked up right were we left off. It's like I saw her just yesterday.

I've known D since grade five. She was my first real friend when my family moved here all those years ago. I love her like a sister. She always makes me laugh. I really feel like i can be myself with her. I can complain about things, express my true feelings to her and she always seems to relate to it. Whenever we get together the hours just fly by. When she said it was time to go, I looked at the clock and couldnt believe the time. We had talked right through lunch time, and I hadn't fed the woman. I realized, she probably left because she had to go forage up a meal before she fainted from hunger! Sorry D, I'm such a lousy hostess. But thats what happens when you take me by surprize. If you had come next Tuesday, like we had planned, I could have had a gourmet lunch all ready for ya. Yeah right!

So, I ask myself. If we enjoy eachothers company so much, why dont we see more of eachother? Same goes for alot of my other friends. It's easy to say, life takes up my time. With work and family and constant piles of laundry and renos, where do we fit friends in? Well Its easier than we make it out to be. You pick a date and you do it. No more "call me some time". No more "We really should make an effort". JUST DO IT. So we are going to meet again next month, make a family thing of it. After all, if its time with family that is holding us back, why not blend the two. Our Husbands have so much in common, they like eachother. So it should be great fun.

As time marches on, I find I am feeling, time with those I love is more important to me than ever. I want to start stting dates and actually having more time with my friends. Maybe this calls for throwing little parties or BBQs just for the hell of it.

"How about it, want to get together sometimes soon?"

" Tell ya what, Just call me sometime and we'll set that up". Sounds good to me!

I wholeheartedly agree with you on the value of friendships. The older I get the more important they seem to be. After loosing my life mate last summer it was care & contact from friends & family that helped me get through some hard times. Time spent with them is wonderful. People we have known for years as well as some we may have just met last year are well worth spending time with. The next time you are heading for Seattle, be sure to wave & say "Hi" to me as you go through Mt. Vernon!

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I feel the same way that you do. We mean, whole heartedly, to get together more often than we do but time seems to get in the way. I really need to make effort to actually follow through on the plans I talk about making with my friends.

Time with those friends does become more important in time.
As we grow from teenagers to have partners and become parents we sometimes dont see those that meant so much to us once because of family and other obligations life requires but as the kids grow up and become more independant your friends start becoming more important again because you have the time for them.

Your post reminded me so much of my best friend, we can always pick up where we left off, and tell each other everything.

I miss her. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to spend time with my friends and family, being too far away. Now I wish I would have made more of an effort when I was back home.

Great minds think alike. My post this week addressed the same issue.

In my case, it took the death of a close friend to bring the rest of us together. I wish we didn't have to get to that point, but at least now the rest uf us are getting together.

So totally true...and no matter how much it seems like we just don't have the time, I don't believe it - because you can choose to make the time. I was bogged down with work on Monday, screaming bosses and deadlines, and was about to cancel my lunch plans to visit Shaun's special education class for their last day of school party - but I thought to myself, what's more important? Screaming bosses or disappointed kids? I went and I'm glad I did because the smiles on their faces were worth it.

There is nothing more valuable in life than family and friends. Glad you got to have such a good visit with D.

Have a good Wednesday. **hugs**

You know, I barely piled out of my 16 year old SUV, and it was time to go again... BUT,... the nice thing is.. summer is coming, where time limits do not exist!
