Backyard Bliss

This is the time of year where I begin to practically live in my back yard. All the hard work through early spring has started to pay off. The ground has drained its winter bogginess. The lawn is coming in thick and lush. The leaves have grown on the trees, filling in the bare patches of yard and giving us our privacy. Best of all the flowers are blooming.

The roses are all in various stages of development. There is a climbing rose on the back fence, which is full out and gives my neighbour a bit of colour in her yard too. Blogger wont let me load a pic of it into this post, grrr!
Down one side of our house we now have an almost finished shed. It is filled with our gardening and camping gear etc. It just needs a tad more paint near the roofline and one of the gutters putting in place, then its done. Well maybe a couple of hanging baskets and window boxes would really make it complete. Doesnt my baby do good work? It was just a plain jane
shed kit and he made the cool barn door himself. I think that makes it really cute. Lets face it, He did that for me. He wouldnt mind if it were a boring old door, but he made it pretty for me. What a guy! Then we found the windows at the hardware store for only $30. They were a cancelled custom order. So we snatched them up. They look cute but they also let some light in.
Down the other side of the house is the brick path from the side gate.
It is a very shady spot. Under a canopy of tall ceadar and pine. Its a perfect spot for hostas and ferns. This huge one is called an Elephant Ear Hosta. I used to plant imatience all along here, but did'nt this year as our pup is still running wild around the yard. Instead i made up planters and just dotted them in amongst the ferns. They will look nice once they fill in a bit.
I spend alot of my spare time here. It is very restful (especially since the worst of the yard work is done for the summer). Since we we moved here ten years ago, we have totally changed the look of this yard. Leveled it, installed drainage, put in a brick patio, lanscapeed. Before, it was just an expanse of lawn.
Carol just brought me a nice cup of tea. I think I will say goodbye for now and head out to drink my tea on my bench in the sunshine.

I love your 'shed', what a super job you've done :o) In fact it's made me feel very guilty for wanting to knock down ours! Maybe with some imagination and hard work...

J.E.A.L.O.U.S. LOVE your shed. We just put together a shed kit (and it was hell to do), but it's plain, unstained and just a shed. I think I may have "borrow" some of your wonderful ideas! :)

You're gardens are beautiful. And the weather has been perfect for sitting outside and relaxing. Your shed looks like a little guest house...you and hubby did a great job.

Take care and have a good Wednesday.

Sounds like a slendid day. When I lived in the U.K., our neighbors would always treat us to tea in their garden. It was spectacular, and relaxing.

Until the kids started crying...

Your yard is beautiful and that shed! It really is like a great playhouse for kids. If you run out of things to do in a yard you are welcome to come to my place. I have a hard time telling the difference between which plants are weeds & which are keepers.
