New Canadian

Congratulations Mum. She finally did it. She officially became a Canadian.

We emmigrated to Canada Over 30 years ago. For many of those years she has felt like she was a Canadian in her heart. She worked here, contributed to society and paid her taxes. She was proud to call this land Home. She always said "I dont need a piece of paper to know where I belong."

Since 911, though, security precautions being as they are these days. Restrictions on travelling are tighter than ever. So she felt like she was forced into having to get that piece of paper. But now she has done it, she's a full fledged Canadian Citizen. She has that piece of paper that tells the world what she she has known for many years.

"I AM CANADIAN"

This is the Joe Canadian Rant , done as a beer promotion http://www.coolcanuckaward.ca/joe_canadian.htm

Hey, I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader....I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber, or own a dogsled....and I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada, although I'm certain they're really really nice.I have a Prime Minister, not a president.I speak English and French, not American. And I pronounce it 'about', not 'a boot'.I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack.I believe in peace keeping, not policing, diversity, not assimilation, and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch, and it is pronounced 'zed' not 'zee', 'zed' !!!!Canada is the second largest landmass! The first nation of hockey!and the best part of North AmericaMy name is Joe!!And I am Canadian!!!

Congrats to your mum! That's great.

I loved your Saturday Night post, but the comments aren't showing. You've got lovely children and should be proud. You don't sound morbid at all, just wanting to see your family stay united. *HUGS*

It's always an emotional beautiful ceremony here when someone becomes an American citizen. I can imagine it's the same there and your mother must be thrilled. Congratulations!

Also there wasn't a comment place above but I wanted you to know the 10 yr old is simply beautiful...you can see the beautiful woman she'll be someday. Is that Carol's little one? She looks so much like her in the face. :) If so, tell her she's got a beauty on her hands but she already knew that. :)
