Jenny Day

CLICK ON ANY PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.
After leaving the campground in HOPE last weekend, we took my niece, Jenny on a tour of some of the sights in that area. You saw photos of the old railway tunnels in a previous post. This is the trail that we walked to get to them. Its about 10 minutes from the parking lot, along the river to the tunnels.

Walking through the trails, the impact of the January storms is still evident. The fact that after all these months, crews are still clearing the debris is a testament to the scope of the damage to our coastal forests.

Bridges connect some of the tunnels. From the bridges the river could be seen rushing through the gorge with tremendous force. The rocks, which above the waterline are jagged, are smooth and rounded were the water has worn them.
I was amazed to see people swimming in this extremely dangerous spot. Jumping from the cliffs into this water is so foolish. But maybe the thrill is worth the risk to these people. Kayakers were in there also, but with safety gear and helmets.

We left the tunnels and went to Bridal Falls, a little west of Hope, in a place called Chilliwack.
Actually called Bridal Veil Falls. Not much water coming over the falls right now, but still a beautiful site to behold. In spring, this waterfall thunders and you cant see any of these rocks showing then, and it literally does look like a bridal veil! We didn't see any bears though. Sorry Deanna! The climb up to the falls is short but steep. It took us 10 minutes to reach the falls. It is a beautiful walk through dense Forest. Jenny was a little winded and got a little scared because she couldn't breath properly. Its a sad thing when 40 somethings can climb relatively easy terrain and a twelve year old is panting heavily. Apart from that little set beck, she enjoyed the waterfalls.

What a wonderful day it was, and except for lunch, didn't cost us a penny. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by all this beauty. If I instilled just a little of that appreciation into my niece, then I did a good job as an auntie that day! Jenny seemed to enjoy the adventure and I think the time for herself as the only kid, was special. I don't think we have ever taken her out on her own. Its rare to have no other children along!

What beauty you have shared---thank you. Waterfalls are so peaceful and right now cool looking and that is something I need...

You are such a great aunt---I know the kids feel blessed.

Just gorgeous, and in our own back yards. It's great that you had one on one time with your niece. You're right about the screens, though. Kids spend too much time sitting in front of screens and not enough time getting out and living life! It's a good thing her auntie can show her how to get out and explore!

Jenny's adorable.

What gorgeous pictures. What kind of camera do you have? I could almost step into those photographs. What a beautiful place to be on a summer's day.

Cheers,
Josie

Great photos and places where it's enjoyable in the 71 degree kind of weather. Very enjoyable to see how bridges are made and the natural wonders nearby!
