The Golden Ears Mountains

Wherever you go in this town, you just can't get away from them. Here in Maple Ridge we constantly live in their shadow. They may be gone from sight at night, but sunsets' golden rays causes them to glow in a gorgeous rosey hue, to bid the local residents good night.
I am often photographing them. I must have hundreds of shots of the Golden Ears. I am drawn to them. One of my most common sayings is " OH look how pretty the Golden Ears are today!". I usually like to find an unobstructed view, to capture them in their glory. But I thought I would post these pictures from town to show you how much of a presence they have here. The Golden Ears Mountains are OUR mountains. Vancouver may have the Lions. The Okanagan has Mt. Baldy. There isnt skiing up there but its entertainment enough to look out and see this scenery. It funny how a big lump of rocks can become such a beacon of local pride. Many businesses in the area are named after them.

This shot was taken at the intersection while I waited for the left turn signal. I live just a few short blocks from here. "Turn left and head towards the mountains" I tell folks when giving directions.
These hills are such a part of the Maple Ridge persona. Even these banners that I photographed in the parking lot of my grocery store, depict the local scenery. Often times Calendars of BC or Canada will have a photo of these mountains in them. If I ever move to the prairies, I will have to move these hills with me. Even our kids said they missed the mountains while we were in Saskatchewan.

Remember, the view we used to have from Stella Place.

I think it's great that you appreciate the beauty around you. So many people I know take their scenic surroundings for granted. Even my brother, when we visited him in BC, said that our wonder of the mountains and the lushness of the vegetation, reawakened his own awareness of beautiful BC.

A wonderful post as many before. I too love the mountains but maybe that's because I use to live in them. Really nice photos on this post and ones before (I had to catch up some...getting behind). Have a nice day.

Just got up with all your post here, as always you have some beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing them. The only way I see snow is here through the eyes of my friends.

You should be so proud of the beauty around you and your family that you share with us. It is so obvious you are very proud of your family and the love is seen in the way you share about them.

Kayla remains in my thoughts...Tell her don't worry about the short trm memory loss at least she has a reason most people look for an excuse.....that is what I often say and even had the chance of saying it to my neurologist that one. She loved it. I hope the scans show nothing that is not expected. I do know the short term memory loss does come from the massive radiation.

Take care, my friend. Hope all goes well and you enjoy the new rotation at work.
