Hubby's Work Party

Keith was on the Entertainment Committee this year, along with good friends Dino and Lisa, seen here on either side of Keith at the raffle ticket table. They planned all kinds of nice things for the employees this year, including Family Disco Bowling Day and a day of Paintball. They were both well planned and enjoyed by all. The Christmas party though, was to be the crowning glory of the committee.

The night got off on a sour note for me. I was to pick up one of the other wives to drive into the party. We were to meet our husbands there , as they had left early to help set things up. Theresa looked amazing. She got in the car and said how she was looking for ward to the evening. We set off in rush hour traffic. By the time we had been on the road for thirty minutes, she went from radiant and chatty, to pale and quiet. Suddenly she was throwing up into a garbage bag! I ended up turning around and driving her back home. She was sick all the way back. She was so disappointed and felt terrible for putting me out. I saw her into the house and after she assured me she would be going straight to bed, I got back on the road, arriving at the party in plenty of time for dinner! I'm a mom and a nurse, watching someone toss their cookies for half an hour didn't dampen my appetite!
Here Keith and Lisa do the door prize draws. They spent a lot on prizes and many people left with nice gifts. The camaraderie during these draws was worth it. A lot of cheers and jeers for prize recipients. Lisa's face glowed red, when her own husbands ticket won the 50-50 draw. Being on the entertainment committee caused a round of good natured shouts of "fixed, fixed, fixed"!

But by far, one of the most successful fundraisers was the TOONIE TOSS. A bottle of Bailie's-Irish Cream was put at one end of the table and the person who could slide a toonie (nickname for the Canadian two dollar coin) down the table, with it ending closest to the bottle without actually touching it, won the bottle. They collected almost two hundred dollars on this event. Participation was high and the competitiveness even higher. With the level of noise as they cheered each other on, you would have thought it was a car they were gambling for!
This guy thought he had the bottle wrapped up after an especially good toss. But look at these shocked faces as he and his spoiler were both knocked out of the game with a well placed shot!

When the dancing got started, this was the fellow with the funky sort of moves that only come with vigorous drinking! He was a pleasant drinker, and provided the rest of the crowd with unimagined entertainment value!

Hope whatever Christmas events you attend are as much fun as this. Cheers!

Most of these photos taken by a co-worker who lent my camera. Too bad she scalped some the twoonie toss pics, but I think they still capture the intensity.

Oh, I love the idea of the toonie toss. Please tell me more of how it was done.....each toonies must have been removed after each slide - how did they mark the spot each person landed? How many tries did they get? How did they determine when to stop the game - when people ran out of money???? Sounds like so much fun - I want to try it at our next fundraiser!
