One Good Friend

UPDATE ON KAYLA: I had word from kaylas mom last night. Kaylas infection has not been cleared up by the IV antibiotics. Sadly, she will have surgery on Sunday to remove the infection. Kayla was so happy with her progress and is obviously not happy with this set back. I know she is in good hands and it wont be long untill she is up and about again.

As most of you know, I am flying out to Edmonton, Alberta tommorrow with my Mother-in-Law to go and spend a week visiting Kayla. We will be staying with Kaylas Dad.

Tonight, my MIL will be spending the night here. That way she is here ready for our early ride out to Abbotsford International Airport. When we booked it, My lovely hubby said he would be able to give us a ride there. Unfortunately, he has been swerved from that duty by a fatherly responsibility.

I mentioned that our Middle Child, 17 year old, 6'5", blonde and beautiful (yes, he takes after his mother, hehe) Son, David, broke his nose. He got head butted at a mosh pit , when he went to see a local band performing at a nearby church parking lot. This issue is a whole other post in itself. Anyways, I digress... He went for his follow up visit a couple of days ago, now that the swelling went down, and the GP refered him to a cosmetic surgeon. You know how it is with these specialists, you go when they fit you in. Besides they wanted him in as soon as possible, as with any bone injury. The longer you wait, the more likely it will have to be rebroken before it can be fixed. They want him in for an assessment tommorrow morning! They have a slot for him to go for sugery if nessesary on Friday morning. David doesnt care about the slight bump on his nose nor does he mind it being slightly off center. It gives him that rugged "dont mess with me look. However, the doc is concerned about it interfering with his breathing eventually. He does have hayfever and is prone to swollen nasal passages and combined with the break, may cause problems. I feel bad that I am going to be away when he may possibly be undergoing a hospital visit. But his dad will be here and I cant put off my visit to Kayla. This is one of those times where I would love to tear myself in half.
So my point was, that my ride to the airport is kaputz. I really did'nt want to drive there and leave my car parked there for a week. When I mentioned my dilemma to my good and faithful friend Deanna, she did'nt hesitate to offer her services. So problem solved. Keith takes David to the Docs, and MIL and I get chauffered in the white 16 year old SUV Bear Watch Mobile. Thanks Deanna, you are my Hero!!!! Deanna was my very first friend I made when my family moved to canada 30 years ago. And she has stuck by me lo these many years. Thanks so much Deanna, you saved the day.

I am a little apprehensive of this trip. It will be my first visit with Kayla since her surgery. I know she has been on an emotional roller coaster this past few weeks. I hope she feels well enough to enjoy our visit. I wonder if she will be able to sneak off the ward for a trip over the road to Timmys for a coffee and a 12 grain toasted bagel with strawberry cream cheese.
I ll try to post while I am away.
Thanks for stopping by.

You sure have enough going on that you don't have to worry about getting bored! I hope they find that David doesn't need surgery and that Kayla is doing better than you had expected. Tell her that there is a bunch of Bloggers who are pulling for her, although I think she already knows that. It is great that she is young enough to be able to enjoy a treat like that with her mocha and won't be gaining weight, like I would. Have a good and safe trip.

I'm so happy that you both will be able to go and be with Kayla. She is most blessed to have such a supportive family who loves her much. She is a strong and wonderful girl. I am sorry about the rollercoaster thing. Considering all that she has been through, once can only imagine how hard it must be. God Bless her and her entire family. Have a safe flight. I have wished i could go see her, pls tell her that we think of her often. Thank goodness for wonderful friends, i'm glad you have a ride tomorrow.

Sorry to hear of your very handsome son who takes his looks after his mom for sure. Keka broke her nose last yr..it was swollen for a long time but didn't end up needing surgery thank goodness. Good luck to your son.

God Bless your trip. Take care. Much hugs.

Those "Why Can't There Be Two of Me" days are almost ALWAYS child-related, aren't they? I can understand what the doctor is saying what with Julia's asthma flaring up and glad he's got Keith there but I konw what you mean...Keith's not MOM. :)

Tell Kayla hi for us and oh, we inadvertently left two DVDs out and the boys opened them thinking Mom had been spontaneously nice to them. LOL. But there are 3 if I recall right along with the CD. :)

Have a safe trip, Susan. :)

I just read your update and wish that were not necessary. Kayla has a great attitude and I guess an occasional step back isn't too bad as long as there are many forward in the same time frame. It sounds like most of her days since the surgery have been steps forward.

Oh crap, I'm sorry to hear about Kayla's problems; that poor girl could use a break. I'm praying hard for her. I hope David's nose gets fixed up with minimal discomfort.

checking in....sending prayers to kayla, and i hope son's nose is ok. broken noses care not something to fool with, my brother had his broken three times when he was in his teens and playing lots of rough sports. now he has 'that rugged' look, but lots of nasal issues.

Mosh pits and headbuts, I got a cracking black eye earlier this year in a mosh pit, being almost 40 I guess I should know better, it just goes to show, sometimes you don't grow up, you just get dafter.
